Loki - I never wanted the throne, I only ever wanted to be your equal.
I didn't actually want to do any Thor-Loki paintings, but I thought these recently released high-quality behind-the-scene stills from the set of Thor make perfect portrait study pieces.
This purely digital painting shows off Tom's superb profile & Loki's shiny helmet - which in fact had ear holes, invisible to the eye when watching the film.
I gave the study a deep skin tone & extra illumination, fine lashes & a hint of green eyes & extra shine. Love [doing] eye shine. I did away with the drab brown background & gave it a plain white canvas, since there's blueish light coming from one end merging with white light under his chin.
This being rehearsal stills, I roughly associated the shot with what occurred during the film. Hence the title. Taking place inside the Observatory, Loki stands atop the frozen controls of the energy beam. After he had sent the brilliant light of the Bifrost energy blasting towards Jotunheim, he provokes Thor into fighting him, & the two engage in a bitter battle.
This is the first of the 'white [background] studies'. Here's the second study: [link]
